Welcome and Contacts

.. to the official site of the NZ Feijoa Growers Association. This website will be a resource for our members, but many areas are open to anyone who has an interest in learning more about feijoas.

Good weather during the blossom period means volumes for 2008 will, like last year, be strong. The Association currently expects consistent crop volumes and quality fruit from the its members. Fruit volumes have now grown to a level that, barring adverse weather conditions, will be consistent to promote currently and in the future.

The NZ Feijoa Growers Association also has a request for wholesalers and retailers. The Association notes that while we do everything we can to work with Association growers on the importance of quality fruit and professionalism in growing and selling practices, not all feijoa growers are members of our association. As a result, there may still be fruit coming to market that does not meet the industry standards. If you encounter poor quality fruit, ie fruit that does not meet minimum standards, it is your right to refuse this fruit.

Please click this link to see the members that have proudly agreed to the NZFGA standards.

Season Timing

The Association expects the feijoa season to start on time with the first fruit becoming available from the middle of March. There is always a flush of fruit about the second week of April, so expect good, promotable volumes during the weeks beginning with 10 April and 17 April. The feijoa flush typically coincides with school holidays and this year is no exception, with schools breaking on 15 April and recommencing on 2 May.

Look for the first fruit to come out of the Northland, then Auckland regions. Taranaki and Tauranga will follow on with the final region being the Southern region.

The feijoa season typically runs to June.
